On 16th November, 1914, the 4th Middlesex battalion of 8 Brigade, 3rd Division marched to Neuve Eglise and then on to Wulverghem where they relieved a battalion of the Scottish Rifles in the trenches. They remained here until relieved on 30th November, suffering a few casualties during their two week stay. One of these was Douglas Dobson who died from wounds on 20th November.
